Bruno has worked as a physiotherapist between 2010 and 2013 in Brazil. He competed a Masters in Physiotherapy at University of Sao Paulo City in 2013. After that he moved to Sydney to do his PhD degree at The George Institute for Global Health, The University of Sydney holding a full time PhD scholarship from CNPq (Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development). He is currently a research fellow at the Hunter Medical Research Institute, University of Newcastle and the Musculoskeletal Health Sydneh, School of Public Health, University of Sydney.

He has published 54 research studies in the last 5 years, and his recent Cochrane review about paracetamol for low back pain has been selected among the top 8 studies of 2016 on the basis of their clinical impact, relevance to everyday practice, strength of evidence, and breadth of application by the journal Annals of Internal Medicine.

The overarching focus of his research is on effectiveness of treatments for chronic pain and back pain. Bruno’s research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals such as Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, British Journal of Sports Medicine, and Journal of Clinical Epidemiology. Bruno has presented in major national and international conferences as keynote speaker, oral and poster presentations. He is also an associate editor of the Cochrane Back and Neck Group and contributes to peer-review for over 12 international journals, including Cochrane database, Journal of Physiotherapy, JOSPT, BMJ Open, Spine, and PLOS One.

Due to his work on PEDro (Physiotherapy Evidence Database) and the large Brazilian community using the database (#1 country that most access PEDro), Bruno is one of the creators of the blog ‘PEDrinho’ to bring the best evidence indexed in the PEDro database to Portuguese speakers (over 4,000 followers). Bruno is also the co-lead of the International Collaboration for Early Career Researchers (ICECReam.org).
